Landscaping Plants Beautify Your New Construction
When you are starting from scratch, it is sometimes hard to know where to start at all. The blank canvas of empty property around a newly constructed home can seem overwhelming when you’ve just spent so much time choosing bath fixtures, floor coverings, cabinets and countertops, and appliances.
That’s where Bosch’s Landscaping in Holland can lend a helping hand. Our knowledge of which landscaping plants do well in our region and how to place them for optimal function and beauty will be a great aid when making these final decisions about the environment around your home.
An example is a recent project we did in Lakeland Woods. One of the features created by the home builder was a large decorative stone wall along the side of the garage that sloped down toward the back. Hardscapes like these can look like a massive castle wall if they are not “softened” with some greenery. We suggested Techny Arborvitae, a clone of American Arborvitae which was originally found in Techny, Illinois. It is considered a windbreak tree, and can eventually grow tall and thick. Its natural conical shape is beautiful in all stages of growth. We grouped it with other evergreens and small shrubs for a low-maintenance hillside area.
Another area—an inner corner where the air conditioner is located—had windows to deal with. Here we went with a Kousa Dogwood tree. These grow about 15 – 30 feet tall in a pleasing umbrella shape that won’t block the views, and offer year-round beauty:
- creamy white “flowers” (actually large white bracts around very small blossoms) in spring
- deep green foliage during summer
- reddish purple berries in the fall
- arching branches and peeling bark for a striking winter silhouette
We paired these with ever-blooming hydrangeas for great color all through the growing season, every year.
These are just two examples of how we choose and place plants for the best visual effect. We can do the same for your new construction.
